Campervan rental in Bordeaux
Bordeaux (Nouvelle-Aquitaine) is one of France's busiest motorhome rental markets: private campervans on the P2P platforms, professional fleets on the outskirts — and each site only shows its own catalogue. Van-Comparator queries them all in a single search and ranks the offers by real total price.
The campervan — VW California, Mercedes Marco Polo, Ford Transit Nugget — is the ultimate freedom format in Bordeaux: it drives like a large car, parks in town, yet hides a bed, a kitchenette and often a pop-top roof. It is the most contested segment of the market, split between private owners and professional fleets — the one where comparing platforms pays most.
Expect €75–150 per day depending on season, model and included mileage. All these vans stay under 3.5 t: a standard car licence is enough across Europe (in the US and Canada, your regular licence works — an International Driving Permit is recommended for European visitors). Check each offer's deposit, excess and mileage cap — the three items that vary most between platforms.
By campervan out of Bordeaux: routes and stopovers
Bordeaux gives you three very different playgrounds within ninety minutes. Head west on the A660 and you reach the Arcachon basin and the Dune du Pilat in an hour, with Cap Ferret via the D106 along the lagoon. Northwards, the Route des Châteaux (D2) threads through the Médoc vineyards past Margaux and Pauillac all the way to Pointe de Grave. Behind the pine forest, the big lakes of Lacanau, Carcans-Hourtin and Sanguinet make quieter overnight stops than the ocean beaches.
Along the Gironde coast, overnight parking is banned by municipal bylaw in most resorts and many beach car parks have 2-metre height barriers: aim for the municipal motorhome aires and the lakeside campsites instead — plentiful, and rarely full outside July and August. Wild camping is off-limits on the coast. In summer, get to the Dune du Pilat before 9 am, as the car park fills fast; in September, harvest season in the Médoc and the France Passion farm network make memorable stopovers.
