VAN-COMPARATOR Guide
Campervan Rental in Ljubljana: Slovenia in One Week
Rent a campervan in Ljubljana for a Slovenian loop: Bled, Bohinj, the Soča valley and the Karst, the 16 € vignette, campsites and overnight parking rules.
Slovenia is Europe in miniature: from the Julian Alps to the Goriška Brda vineyards and the caves of the Karst, everything sits within two hours of Ljubljana. It may be the ideal country for a first week in a campervan — short distances, spectacular nature, excellent campsites.
Renting in Ljubljana
Expect 80-120 € per day for a campervan in shoulder season, more in August. Local supply is real but limited: widening the search to Zagreb (1.5 h) or Vienna (4 h) often unlocks better prices. Van-Comparator compares Yescapa, Goboony, Roadsurfer and Indie Campers in one search with the total price shown — our campervan hire guide walks through the process step by step.
The Slovenian loop in 7 days
- Day 1: Ljubljana, the green capital with a pedestrian centre, Ljubljana Resort campsite north of town.
- Day 2: Lake Bled, its island and clifftop castle.
- Day 3: Lake Bohinj and the Pokljuka plateau, wilder still.
- Days 4-5: the Soča valley via the Vršič pass (50 hairpins, closed to vehicles over 7 m — longer rigs go through the Bohinj tunnel or via Italy), kayaking and hiking in Bovec.
- Day 6: the Goriška Brda vineyards, Slovenia’s answer to Tuscany.
- Day 7: Škocjan or Postojna caves, Predjama castle, return.
Vignette and budget
Slovenia’s electronic vignette is mandatory on motorways: 16 € for 7 days in class 2A (under 3.5 t). If you drive down from France through Switzerland, add the annual Swiss vignette (about 40 CHF); via Austria, the 10-day vignette at around 12 €. Weekly budget for two: 600-850 € rental, 90 € of fuel for 550 km, campsites at 25-45 € per night — 1,100-1,500 € all told.
Overnight parking: the Slovenian rule
Wild camping is forbidden in Slovenia and fines are handed out, especially around Bled and the Soča in summer. The country compensates with a good network of campsites and official motorhome stopovers (PZA). Check the European wild camping rules and compare vehicles on our motorhome rental in Ljubljana page.
