Campervan Rental in Thessaloniki: Northern Greece in 7 Days

Rent a campervan in Thessaloniki: a 7-day itinerary through Mount Olympus, Vergina, Halkidiki and Meteora, northern Greek campsites, budget and rules.

Thessaloniki is the dream base for a Greece the classic circuits ignore: Mount Olympus, the Macedonian sites of Vergina and Pella, the Halkidiki beaches and, two hours down the road, the hanging monasteries of Meteora. All with fewer crowds and gentler prices than the south.

Renting a campervan in Thessaloniki

Supply is tighter than in Athens: expect 80-125 € per day for a campervan in shoulder season, and book early for summer. Van-Comparator compares Yescapa, Goboony, Roadsurfer and Indie Campers live and shows the real total price; if nothing comes up for your dates, widen the search to Athens (5 h of motorway, about 30 € in tolls) — often the best plan B.

7-day itinerary around Thessaloniki

About 800 km in total. For a slower version, swap Meteora for a second day in Sithonia.

Weekly budget

Rental: 560-875 € in June. Fuel: about 130 € (diesel at 1.65 €/L). Campsites: 25-40 € per night for two — Sithonia lines up excellent grounds under the pines, several open April to October. Tolls: 15-20 € overall. Total for two: 1,200-1,600 € excluding meals, noticeably less than an equivalent southern circuit.

The rules to respect

As everywhere in Greece, camping outside authorised grounds is forbidden — and Halkidiki, hugely popular with vans in summer, sees regular checks. Stay in campsites; the density of the network makes it effortless. In September the water stays warm, the grounds empty out and prices drop by a quarter: the perfect month for this loop, as our off-season rental guide keeps reminding us.
