The Langhe by campervan from Turin: Barolo, Alba and the wine road

A weekend or a week in the Langhe by campervan from Turin: the Barolo villages, Alba's truffle fair, agricamping stays and real costs.

An hour from Turin, the Langhe unfurl UNESCO-listed vine-covered hills, a medieval village every five kilometres and two of Italian wine's greatest names, Barolo and Barbaresco. It's Piedmont's answer to Tuscany, with half the tourists — and dream terrain for a small campervan.

The village circuit (2–3 days)

Use Alba as base camp, then the classic loop: Barolo and its wine museum in the castle, La Morra and its 360° belvedere, Monforte d'Alba, Serralunga, Neive and Barbaresco. The roads are narrow but short: a compact van or mini-camper (€45–90/day) is the perfect format; in a semi-integrated RV, use the car parks at the village entrances.

Sleeping among the vines

Piedmont has embraced agricamping: estates hosting a handful of vans for €15–30 a night, often with a tasting thrown in. Alba also has a municipal motorhome area. Wild camping is tolerated nowhere in the vineyards — every hillside here is private, working land.

Autumn, the real season

The Langhe work year-round, but their peak is autumn: the September harvest, golden mist, and above all the Alba international white truffle fair, from October to early December. Book vehicle and overnight stops several weeks ahead for that window — it's the only time the region sells out.

Budget from Turin

Turin is an underrated departure city: supply there is cheaper than Milan for the same models. Check with one search on Van-Comparator, which compares Yescapa, Goboony, Roadsurfer and Indie Campers. And if the truffle fair dates don't fit, a plain October weekday among the fog-draped vines is arguably even better.
