VAN-COMPARATOR Guide
Hiring a luxury A-class motorhome: how it works, from the Riviera to Bavaria
Hymer, Niesmann + Bischoff: what a premium A-class rental costs, the conditions to meet, and the itinerary that does it justice.
Panoramic windscreen, island bed, heated double floor: the A-class is first class on wheels. Hiring a Hymer B-MC or a Niesmann + Bischoff Arto works perfectly well — provided you know the rules of the segment.
What it really costs
Expect €130 to €280 per day — the top of the range for recent models in summer. Add a deposit of €3,000 to €5,000, an insurance excess often above €2,000 (the excess-reduction option at €15–25/day earns its keep here more than anywhere — see our deposit and insurance guide), and fuel at 12–14 L/100 km.
The entry conditions
A-class owners are selective: minimum age 25 to 30, several years of driving experience, and often prior motorhome experience required. Under 3.5 t a standard licence is enough; some premium A-classes tip into the light-truck category — check the gross weight on the listing before you start dreaming.
The itinerary that does it justice: Riviera → Bavaria
An A-class shines on beautiful mileage. Starting from Nice: the Niçois hinterland, the Italian lakes via Piedmont, then the German Alpine Road to Munich — 900 km spread over 10 to 14 days, with premium stopovers on the German side (Bavarian Stellplätze with hook-ups and full services are the best equipped in Europe). Our Alps road trip details the stages. Note: one-way drop-off in another country costs €300–600 when offered at all.
Where to find one
Most of the premium fleet sits with private owners (Yescapa, Goboony) plus a few professional operators. On Van-Comparator, filter “A-class”: at this price level, a 20% gap between two platforms is €400 over ten days.
