RV Rental in Boston: Cape Cod, the White Mountains and the Gateway to New England

Boston is the natural gateway to New England: a major international airport, a city best explored on foot before hitting the road — the Freedom Trail takes half a day — then three superb directions: ocean, mountains and Maine.
Renting in Boston
As everywhere in the United States, RV depots sit in the suburbs, not downtown: plan a transfer from Logan Airport and a hotel night before pick-up. Cape Cod, the White Mountains, Maine
- Cape Cod (2-4 days): under two hours away, the peninsula of endless beaches, lighthouses and lobster shacks — the Cape Cod National Seashore protects 60 km of Atlantic-facing dunes.
- White Mountains (2-4 days): north into New Hampshire, the Kancamagus Highway is one of the finest forest roads in the American East — passes, waterfalls and overlooks in quick succession.
- Maine coast up to Acadia (4-6 days): fishing harbours, granite peninsulas and Acadia National Park, about 4.5 hours from Boston — with the legendary sunrise from Cadillac Mountain.
Fall, the headline season
From late September to mid-October the foliage sets the region ablaze and campgrounds fill weeks ahead — our New England fall guide covers routes and leaf-peeping timing. The phenomenon is well studied: the study by Daniel Spencer and Donald Holecek published in 2007 in Tourism Management shows that fall tourists are on average older and travel less with children, and that foliage viewing rarely motivates the trip on its own — it almost always rides along (Google Scholar page). In other words: outside school holidays, fall remains surprisingly workable by RV.
Good to know
Distances are short by American standards — Boston to Acadia is half a day — which makes this an excellent first RV trip. Tempted to push west? The Catskills and Adirondacks from New York connect naturally through Vermont.
