Campervan rental in Nantes

Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) is one of France's busiest motorhome rental markets: private campervans on the P2P platforms, professional fleets on the outskirts — and each site only shows its own catalogue. Van-Comparator queries them all in a single search and ranks the offers by real total price.

The campervan — VW California, Mercedes Marco Polo, Ford Transit Nugget — is the ultimate freedom format in Nantes: it drives like a large car, parks in town, yet hides a bed, a kitchenette and often a pop-top roof. It is the most contested segment of the market, split between private owners and professional fleets — the one where comparing platforms pays most.

Expect €75–150 per day depending on season, model and included mileage. All these vans stay under 3.5 t: a standard car licence is enough across Europe (in the US and Canada, your regular licence works — an International Driving Permit is recommended for European visitors). Check each offer's deposit, excess and mileage cap — the three items that vary most between platforms.

By campervan out of Nantes: routes and stopovers

Nantes opens onto two coastlines. Southwards lies the Jade coast: Pornic and its rocky coves 45 minutes away, then Noirmoutier at the one-hour mark, reached by the bridge or — at low tide — via the Passage du Gois, four kilometres of submersible causeway usable only for about ninety minutes either side of low water. To the north, the Guérande salt marshes and the bay of La Baule sit an hour out, with the Gulf of Morbihan and the Quiberon peninsula at ninety minutes.

Seafront overnight parking is generally banned in the coastal towns of Loire-Atlantique and Vendée, but the network of municipal aires and campsites is dense, and most aires charge only a few euros a night with services included. That goes for Noirmoutier too — book ahead in summer, as the island fills up fast. The seasonal advice: check the tide tables before attempting the Gois, and favour June or September, when the coast quietens down and the oyster ports are a pleasure rather than a queue.

When to go from Nantes
