Renting a Mini-Camper on the Cheap: 5 Concrete Levers

Off-season dates, peer-to-peer rentals, weekly discounts, included mileage and smart pick-up cities: 5 levers to pay less for your mini-camper.

The mini-camper is already the cheapest motorised camper to rent: €45 to €90 per day depending on the season. But between a last-minute July booking and an optimised one, the gap easily reaches 40%. Here are the five levers that actually work.

1. Shift by one season

A mini-camper listed at €85 per day in August often drops to €50-60 in June or September, and below €50 from October to April. These small vehicles heat up fast and drive well in winter: off-season rental suits them perfectly.

2. Look at private owners

On Yescapa and Goboony, owners rent out their Caddy or converted Berlingo at rates often 15 to 25% below professional fleets. In exchange: a one-of-a-kind vehicle (read the listing carefully), a handover with the owner, and variable cancellation terms. Our comparison of rental platforms details each one's service fees.

3. Play the weekly discount

Almost all rental companies apply degressive pricing: a week rarely costs 7 times the daily rate — more like 5.5 to 6 times. If you are hesitating between 5 and 7 days, ask for both quotes: the seventh day is sometimes almost free.

4. Check the included mileage

A teaser price of €45 per day with 100 km included and €0.25/km beyond quickly becomes more expensive than a €60 offer with unlimited mileage. Estimate your loop before comparing: on a 1,200 km road trip, the difference runs into hundreds of euros. Our fuel and tolls guide helps you build the full budget.

5. Start from a secondary city

Depots in major hubs carry the tightest prices. For identical dates, starting from Nantes rather than Paris, or from Toulouse rather than Barcelona, often saves 10 to 20% — and sometimes puts you closer to your route anyway.

Comparing remains lever number one

Van-Comparator queries Yescapa, Goboony, Roadsurfer and Indie Campers in a single search and shows the real total price, service fees included. On a week-long mini-camper rental, a few minutes of comparison is often worth €100.
