Motorhome Rental in Lyon: the Ideal Crossroads for the Alps or the South

Few French cities offer as many road-trip directions as Lyon: the Beaujolais and its golden-stone villages 45 minutes away, the Vercors and Chartreuse an hour and a half, Annecy and the Alps two hours, the Ardèche and Provence due south. France’s second urban area, it also has one of the country’s best-stocked rental fleets.
Renting in Lyon
All the big platforms are dense here — Yescapa and Goboony for private vans, professional operators and fleet stations on the eastern and southern outskirts. The smart move: collect the vehicle on the outskirts rather than downtown, to avoid the Presqu’île and the Fourvière tunnel at rush hour. Expect €75 to €150 per day for a campervan, €95 to €180 for a coachbuilt (price guide).
Low-emission zone: the Crit’Air sticker in the glovebox

Four itineraries from Lyon

Why three days outdoors change everything
The urge to leave the city is no whim: the most cited framework in environmental psychology, set out by Stephen Kaplan in his 1995 article in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, shows that natural environments restore directed attention, depleted by urban life and screen work (Google Scholar page). Three days between the Vercors balconies and an Ardèche night halt are, quite literally, an attentional cure.

In summer the A7 motorway south of Lyon sees France’s busiest Saturdays: leave early in the morning or shift to Sunday, and prefer the right bank of the Rhône (N86) for a gentler run down to the Ardèche.
