Renting a campervan for a wedding or a festival

A vintage van for a wedding, an RV for Coachella or a European festival: rental formats, prices, festival campervan passes and the traps specific to event rentals.

The campervan has earned its place at life's big moments: wedding backdrop, festival base camp, bachelor-weekend headquarters. Event rentals have their own rules, though — near-zero mileage but high expectations — and a few traps. A practical guide.

The wedding van: more prop than vehicle

A vintage bus or a retro van as the couple's car, photo corner or mobile bar: peer-to-peer platforms are full of characterful vehicles, and a 2–3-day rental (€300 to €800) costs far less than a dedicated event service. Three points to lock down with the owner: the exact use (some contracts exclude events — tell the truth, a day-of cancellation would be catastrophic), permission to decorate (flowers and ribbons yes, suction cups and adhesive on bodywork rarely), and a mechanical plan B: a 1975 vehicle can stall on the big day, so know who rescues you.

Festivals: the best room on site

In the United States, Coachella has turned RV camping into an institution: dedicated pitches sell with the passes and vanish within hours, and festivalgoers book their vehicles months out — in Los Angeles or San Diego, expect $150 to $350 per day plus the pitch. Same logic in Europe: most big festivals (rock, electronic, jazz) sell a campervan pass separate from tent camping, between €60 and €150 for the weekend, in limited numbers. Buy the pass before booking the van, not the other way round.

The event-specific traps

A festival means mud, dust and neighbors: anticipate the heavier cleaning at return (a €100–200 penalty if the vehicle comes back dirty) and check the deductible for interior damage. On site, there is usually no electric hook-up: aim for a vehicle with a solar panel and a healthy leisure battery, and a decent-capacity toilet cassette — dump stations are organized but the queues are long. Mileage, finally: the platforms' limited allowances easily cover a local round trip, one reason event rentals often cost less in total than a road trip.

Compare before you book

On an event weekend, local prices spike: comparing several platforms saves 20 to 30%. Van-Comparator queries Yescapa, Goboony, Roadsurfer and Indie Campers in one search — and our rental price guide helps you spot the true total price, options included.
