From Toronto to Niagara and the great lakes by RV

RV rental in Toronto: Niagara Falls, wine country, the Bruce Peninsula and Algonquin Park. Full itinerary, CAD prices and Ontario Parks booking windows.

Ontario strings together, in a single loop, Niagara Falls, celebrated vineyards, the turquoise waters of Georgian Bay and the moose-filled lakes of Algonquin Park. Starting point: Toronto, eastern Canada’s biggest RV rental market.

Stage 1: Niagara and the wineries (2-3 days)

The falls are 130 km from Toronto. With an RV, sleep at the Niagara Falls campgrounds and ride the shuttle to the falls — big-rig parking there is expensive and scarce. Then follow the river to Niagara-on-the-Lake, the prettiest village in the province, at the heart of a wine region famous for icewine: several estates welcome vehicles overnight through harvest-host style networks.

Stage 2: Georgian Bay (3-4 days)

Head northwest to the Bruce Peninsula: at Tobermory, Lake Huron turns lagoon-blue. The Grotto, the turquoise shoreline cave of Bruce Peninsula National Park, requires a parking reservation in summer — book your time slot online weeks ahead, along with Cyprus Lake campground. On the way, Wasaga Beach claims the world’s longest freshwater beach.

Stage 3: Algonquin (2-3 days)

Algonquin Provincial Park, crossed by Highway 60, covers 7,600 km² of lakes and forest: dawn canoe outings, moose in the marshes in June, spectacular colour in late September. The campgrounds along Highway 60 (Lake of Two Rivers, Pog Lake) book on Ontario Parks exactly 5 months ahead, day by day — be online when your window opens, summer sells out in hours.

Budget and season

Expect CAD 140-280/day for a motorhome in July-August, CAD 110-220 for a campervan, with mileage worth checking (the full loop runs 900-1,100 km). Provincial campgrounds: CAD 40-60 with power. The season runs May to mid-October; September is the perfect month — lakes still warm, colour arriving, half the crowds.
