VAN-COMPARATOR Guide
Which campervan for your group? The guide by situation
Couple, family with kids, group of friends, three generations: the vehicle type that genuinely suits each crew, with realistic berths and budgets.
Most rental disappointments fit in one sentence: “we took something too small / too big / too complicated”. The right vehicle does not depend only on budget — it depends on who is coming aboard. A review, situation by situation.
As a couple
The campervan (€75-150/day) is the ruling format: parks anywhere, drives like a large car, and the pop-top provides the second berth or standing height. On a tight budget or chasing maximum freedom: the mini-camper (€45-90/day) makes the same trip with more spartan comfort — perfect in a dry climate.
Family with one or two children
Priority to fixed berths and proper seat belts: a semi-integrated (€95-180/day) with bunk beds, or an alcove motorhome (€90-170/day) whose over-cab bed becomes the children’s favourite den. Check the number of registered travel seats — that is what limits how many people may travel, not the number of berths. Child seats: confirm Isofix mounts with the owner before booking.
Group of friends (4-6)
Resist the “one big vehicle” reflex: beyond four adults, privacy and the single bathroom become the story. Two campervans often cost barely more than one large A-class, double your options (two routes, two moods) and park ten times more easily. If you insist on a single vehicle, six-berth A-class motorhomes exist (€130-280/day) — but measure campsite pitches first.
Three generations
The A-class ticks every box: a real bed for the grandparents (drop-down island bed), a spacious lounge, a huge garage. Complete it with a hotel room one night in three for everyone’s comfort — the mixed formula is underrated. The deciding detail: the entrance step and the washroom — study the photos closely.
To settle the choice
Our guide which RV for which trip crosses these profiles with destinations, and the price guide gives the full ranges. One simple principle: take the smallest vehicle that sleeps everyone — never the other way round.
