VAN-COMPARATOR Guide
Motorhome Rental in Athens: the Complete Guide
Rent a motorhome in Athens: prices by season, depots and platforms, escapes to Sounion, Delphi and the Peloponnese, campsites and Greek rules.
Athens is the logical gateway to a Greek road trip: most of the country’s rental supply is concentrated here, and the main highways fan out towards the Peloponnese, Delphi and the north. The city itself is best visited without a vehicle — the trick is to collect the van at the airport or on the outskirts and head straight out.
Prices and platforms in Athens
Expect 85-130 € per day for a campervan in shoulder season, 130-170 € in July-August, with 5-7 day minimums common in summer. Indie Campers has a presence in Athens, and peer-to-peer supply via Yescapa and Goboony is growing. Van-Comparator queries the four partner platforms live and shows the true total price — service fees, cleaning and mileage included. Gaps often exceed 20% for a comparable vehicle; our comparison of which platform to choose details each one’s policies.
Three escapes that make the Athens base
- Cape Sounion (1.5 h): the temple of Poseidon at sunset, along the Attica coastal road.
- Delphi and Mount Parnassus (2.5 h): Greece’s most spectacular sanctuary, then the village of Arachova and the Parnassus trails.
- The Peloponnese: Epidaurus and Nafplio 2 h away — the great one-week itinerary covered in our dedicated guide.
Traffic, tolls, parking
Avoid crossing central Athens in a van: dense traffic and restrictions in the inner core. Take the Attiki Odos ring road (toll of about 2.80 € per passage) and leave the metropolitan area by the shortest route. On Greek motorways, tolls are paid at gantries section by section: about 30 € to reach Thessaloniki, 10-15 € for the northern Peloponnese. Diesel hovers around 1.65 €/L, slightly above the European average.
Where to sleep
Camping outside authorised grounds is illegal in Greece. Around Athens, the Attica coast campsites work well for the first and last night (25-40 € for two). After that, the Greek network takes over wherever you go.
