Roadsurfer Review 2026: The Pro Fleet Under the Microscope

Recent vehicles, stations across Europe and North America, readable pricing: our neutral review of Roadsurfer — its real strengths and its concrete limits.

As with every platform Van-Comparator queries daily, this Roadsurfer review comes from an independent comparison engine, affiliated with no one. Here is what our comparisons actually show.

What Roadsurfer does well

Founded in Munich in 2016, Roadsurfer is a professional rental company: it owns its fleet, one of the market’s youngest, built around standardised models — VW California and Grand California, Ford Nugget, converted vans on Sprinter or Crafter bases. Concretely, you know exactly what you will be driving, and maintenance follows agency procedures. The station network covers much of Europe — Germany above all — plus several North American cities. Pricing is among the most readable in the business: depending on the plan, unlimited mileage, additional drivers and bedding are included, and flexible cancellation is available as an option. Camping equipment (kitchen kit, chairs, table) is standardised and bookable online.

Its limits

The agency model has its trade-offs: pickup and return at a station, during opening hours — check the schedule if your flight lands late. The deposit is blocked on a credit card at departure, the vehicle must come back clean or a cleaning charge applies, and options stack up quickly on the invoice. In high season, the most popular compact campervans sell out months ahead and prices climb steeply. Finally, anyone looking for a one-of-a-kind, hand-converted van won’t find it here: the fleet is deliberately uniform.

Who it suits best

First road trips — a recent, standardised vehicle forgives a lot, see our guide to driving a motorhome for the first time —, travellers who want guaranteed hours and mechanical condition, and routes ending at another station where the link exists (one-way fee to budget).

Our verdict

A safe bet in the professional segment, predictable and well-executed. The open question is price: on the same dates, the gap with an equivalent privately owned van can be significant in either direction. Compare the total price on Van-Comparator, options included, before deciding — our guide to choosing a platform helps you arbitrate.
