US-281 and TX-16 climb toward Bandera and the heart of the Hill Country, while I-10 runs toward the West Texas desert and Big Bend, a long day’s drive away.

Fredericksburg, a German-heritage town surrounded by wineries, is about an hour and a quarter away. Bandera, the self-proclaimed Cowboy Capital of the World, is an hour out, Garner State Park and the Frio River about ninety minutes, and Lost Maples State Natural Area, at its best in November, roughly two hours.
