Motorhome routes out of Dijon

The Route des Grands Crus, along the D122 then the D974, strings together Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges down to Beaune in under an hour, brushing past the UNESCO-listed climats. Westwards, the Ouche valley and the Burgundy canal lead gently to Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, a hilltop village overlooking the A6, in forty minutes. On the Route des Grands Crus itself, Nuits-Saint-Georges keeps a free 8-pitch aire with water and a dump station, and Savigny-lès-Beaune a paid, fully equipped 22-pitch aire: two useful footholds where the slope villages are unsuited to overnighting.

Where to go by motorhome around Dijon

Beaune and its Hospices are the obvious outing, an hour away through the vines. Allow an hour for the Cistercian abbey of Fontenay and the Alésia site, an hour and a quarter for the lakes and forests of the Morvan regional nature park, and just under an hour for Semur-en-Auxois, one of Burgundy’s loveliest medieval towns. Beaune has an equipped, paid aire 700 metres from the centre, and Semur-en-Auxois a free one with water, dump station and electricity less than a kilometre from the old town — enough to turn both visits into overnight stops rather than round trips.
